Today I’m going to try something a little different. One of my many passions is board games, so starting today I am occasionally going to start writing reviews for board games that I play.

Today I will be reviewing Blood Bowl: Team Manager. It is made by Fantasy Flight Games, one of my favorite board game companies. The original license is from Games Workshop who developed the original Blood Bowl games.

Blood Bowl: Team Manager is a deck building game at heart. This means that you will be starting with a predefined team, depending which race you choose, and by winning and losing matches you are able to modify your team deck to get better players. You also can get other cards that give you more actions to help you win matches.

The original Blood Bowl game is mostly played at the single game level, with tournaments and seasons connecting games. This game changes that, within about an hour or so you can play through a whole season. You compete in multiple tournaments and the player with the most fans at the end wins.

Blood Bowl: Team Manager takes about 10 minutes to learn, as long as you keep the rulebook nearby for quick reference. The mechanics of the game are simple, but you still get the feel of playing the different races like you do in the original game. The first couple of turns that my son and I played we spent most of the time looking at the rules, to make sure we were playing correctly. The last game we did, we only looked at the rulebook once to resolve a minor point in playing the game.

Each turn covers a week in the Blood Bowl season. You pick the games you want to play in order to get team improvements, fans, or star players. The action around good matches can get pretty intense if the players are fighting to get a particular enhancement. Some weeks there is also a tournament which can give a ton of fan factor for the winner.

For anyone interested there are two places to look for assistance with this game when there is trouble. The official FAQ and on BoardGameGeek which is a great site for all kinds of board games.

I recommend this game to any who like the original Blood Bowl, and for anyone looking to kill an hour or two with something fun to do. This game gets 2 thumbs up from me, it will definitely be in my collection for a long time.

The Tulip, even though it is originally from the Ottoman Empire, it is most commonly associated with the Netherlands. Holland is the world’s biggest commercial producer of Tulips.

On today’s page I love the image of the happy Tulip just striding along. There’s almost a cocky look the little girl. She also looks vaguely Dutch, which is a nice touch. You’ll notice the wooden clogs on her feet.
