I just rebooted the Labyrinth Lord game with my 2 older sons this weekend. They are each playing 2 characters, and I have the one NPC that is always in my Labyrinth Lord games.
After digging through my old B/X modules I decided the run the boys through module B4 “The Lost City”. So far they have managed to enter the pyramid, survive the gas trap, and descend through one of the tubes to the lower level. And even explore a couple of rooms. All without losing a single PC. I am quite proud of their abilities to play so far.
Simon is running a Thief and a Magic-User, he is learning a lot about the different skills. I have had to explain how they can be used a few times, but he’s getting the hang of it. He is now checking for traps regularly, listening at doors before barging in, and standing back and letting the Cleric and the Fighter do most of the damage.
Sebbie is running a Cleric and a Fighter, he has most of the damage capacity of the group. Currently he rolls dice like his dad and they can’t seem to hit squat. Both of the boys did manage to get Natural 20s while playing, followed by max damage for the weapons they were using. This itself was impressive enough.
I will post a more detailed writeup of the adventure at a later time. For now I am having a great time getting to share my favorite hobby with my sons.
